258" inline six

This page is dedicated to the motor and the work I've done to it over the years. The previous owner had the motor rebuilt and a mild cam was installed. It's been a damn good motor and I plan on keeping it, my main complaint was with the carburetor. Always coughed and sputtered on hill climbs and descents.

Fuel Injected! I researched fuel injection systems and determined the factory MOPAR kit was the best one to go with but it was also the most expensive. It uses all factory Jeep (1995 YJ) parts, if it turns out you need a replacement part it won't be hard to get with dealers throughout the country or even auto parts stores. Some of those after market systems might not be as easy to find parts. If I remember correctly the kit claims to add 40hp.

Look at this mess! The emission system choking the life out of the motor. Smog pump, junky Carter carburetor, vacuum line hell!

More of the same just a different angle.

Tearing it down, radiator out, manifold and carb gone, front motor pulleys coming off, and the smog pump went bye bye!

Here you can see the Borla header and the Clifford valve cover, two upgrades I had done some time before. You can also see the M.O.R.E. long travel shock hoop.

On the other side of the block I removed the distributor and mechanical fuel pump. The new fuel injection system will come with a new distributor and electric fuel pump. The Jacobs electronic ignition system will be gone as well!

With the MOPAR fuel injection system the harmonic balancer needs to be replaced and a crank sensor will be added. This is why all pulleys need to come off.

Here's the mountain of parts removed, carb, manifold, distributor, cap, wires, smog pump, fuel pump, and some hoses.

Thank you Lord for what we are about to receive.

Manifold installed.

Wider Shot....looking good right?

Fuel pump installed.

Fuel injection brain installed.

Let's hope it's in the best possible place for four wheeling and high water crossings.

Not a great shot, but now you can see the distributer installed and the new coil/fuel pump block off plate installed. That Red Top Optima is beat to hell.

Pretty much there.

Fuel injection done!

Future modifications will be a 4.0L head conversion for sure. Maybe way down the line drop in stroker kit and see what kind of power I can squeeze out of the 258.
