Jeep Build Up!

Welcome to My Jeep Home Page. My goal here is not only to build a rock crawler, but a capable and self-sufficient trail rig. A Jeep that can take you deep into a trail for days on end while at the same time maintaining a street friendly driver. Follow along as I build up my 1982 CJ-7 Jeep Renegade.

UPDATE: 8-24-2010

It's to freaking hot to be wrenching here in south Texas! Check back in late October, I'll be back on it soon.

Nothing like redoing the front suspension when you thought you had it all figured out!....here's my not so simple spring swap! The original springs I put under the rig were not what I was looking for, they were 2" wide YJ 4" lift springs. I'm going to run 2.5" rear YJ springs on all four corners. The wider 2.5" springs allow for better spring rates. Better spring rates mean a better ride and some good flexing! And a bonus feature these springs are military wrapped.

Here's where the not so simple comes into play. I'll  have to swapout the spring perches and plates since I'm going with the wider springs. I bought these from Rubicon Express, very beefy compared to the parts I'm taking off.

Rubicon on the left, stock on the right. Since I'm running a SOA setup I opted for the anti-wrap perches which are longer then stock ones.

Again, Rubicon left and stock right.

Bye-bye Revolvers....

Axle pulled...obviously.

Gettin' ready for surgery.

Old mount gone and new ones welded into place. I'm also gonna gain about 1/2" of lift with these perches. They sit up a bit higher!

Just need to lay down a little paint and I'm good to go on this end.

New springs, shackles and bushings installed.

If your running lubable bolts with zerk fittings checkout
M.O.R.E zerk protectors. These heavy steel cones should keep
those fittings safe from the rocks.

These bell style shackles make the job easier when converting
from 2" to 2.5" width springs. Another RE score.

Axle going back in...

Only to find out I need longer u-bolts, waiting on parts again.
