Jeep Build Up! Screaming Chicken

Welcome to Crawler-X.com, my Jeep home page. My goal here is not only to build a rock crawler, but a capable and self-sufficient trail rig. A Jeep that can take you deep into a trail for days on end while at the same time maintaining a street friendly driver. Follow along as I build up my 1982 CJ-7 Jeep Renegade and what I hope will be the ultimate trail rig!

Axle Truss

Now that the cross-member and anchor are painted I can get them installed.

Installation was a bitch, the metal shrank just a bit after welding and the bolt and bushing holes were not lining up. I had to modify the bolts so I could get them started and run them threw the bushings.

Anchor installed, checkout the monster rod ends for the traction-bar!

Now moving on to the axle truss. This will be the mounting base for the traction-bar.

On the backside I grafted in a steel plate. It was easy enough making a template on paperboard then transferred the shape over to steel.

Next I cut a hole for the axle vent.

Welded in some pipe to extended the vent out to the axle-truss.

And then somewhere between the last picture and the next picture I inadvertently changed the settings on my camera. So all the photos came out in a total blur.

To finish off the axle vent I welded a nut that was the same thread as the axle vent. Then using the paperboard again I made some plates to fill in the front of the truss. Lots of welding and grinding later this is my finished axle housing.

Now just going back in with the housing so I can start on the traction-bars.

Next up.....

Check back soon...
